Firewalls can provide additional protection for your computer and your personal information from certain things like hackers, viruses and worms that spread across the internet. Outgoing traffic from computer created by virus infection. 

Firewalls simply filters the information coming through the internet connection into your private network or computer system. If incoming packets of information is flagged by the filters that were created, it is not allowed through to your system.
